Cycles West is a great shop to get your bike tuned up. In and out in about a day. Great selection of commuter and road bikes and good prices. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place to do business.

I did a bit of research and found that disk brakes need to be broken in, so I waited a couple days and tried working them in. They didn't get better so I inspected them and noticed the discs were a bit greasy.

I suppose part of the blame should fall on me for not voicing my opinion louder.

Quick friendly service. The guy working there was awesome (I didn't catch his name). I'll definitely go to Cycles West for all my quick fixes

I brought the bike in and showed them. They took the wheel off and wiped the disk with a rag. This helped but didn't solve the problem. I took the bike for a test and it continued with these symptoms. When I came back and showed the guy I could still turn the wheel with the brakes applied, he said, "well, you must be stronger than I am," and dismissed me.

I brought my bike into the shop in 2015 for a tune up and to have the back brake pads replaced. When I got the bike back, the back brakes were worse than before bringing them in.

Given that the brake pad either became greasy during the tune up or before they put it on, I felt like they should have assumed responsibility for the pad. At this time in my life I was afraid of confrontation and didn't push to have it fixed for free or demand a refund, but I left the store as a dissatisfied customer.

Bought two fantastic bikes for our kids. Service was excellent. Will definitely shop there again.

At this point, I couldn't get the back wheel to skid no matter how much pressure was applied. The wheel would continue to turn as the bike slowed and made a wretched noise. I could hold the brake with my left hand, lean on the seat, and turn the wheel with my right arm. So there's no way that with momentum and a rider the bike would stop as it's supposed to.

The internet said that, once this happens, the pads need to be replaced. I got a second opinion from another shop and they confirmed. I called Cycles West and explained the situation and they asked me to bring the bike in and they'd take a look.

After this experience, I wouldn't go back or recommend this store. It's certainly possible that this doesn't reflect the entire store or perhaps the owner, but there were two men in the store during visit, and even the one who wasn't helping me directly heard the conversation and didn't say or do anything. So there's at least two people who could have rectified the situation but didn't.

If you need a place to bring your cycle in Victoria this is the place. Really friendly people at this neighbourhood bike shop. Great value for the level of service they offer and they were always willing to take the time to answer every question I had. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience!
